How does geocoding works?

How does geocoding works?
I am very curious about how geocoding works in Oruxmaps. I ask because sometimes it doesn't find any stuff, sometimes it finds the wrong one, often finds things (at least towns) well and fast.
Is it depending on the map?
Today I was searching for the name of a STREET in my town. I couldn't find it anyways, while google maps of course found it in a sudden.
So the question arose.
Thank you very much!

Hi, febs;
It is an android feature:-->http://developer.android.com/intl/de/reference/android/location/Geocoder.html
OruxMaps not have much control over the results or options.

Re: How does geocoding works?
Bizarre then. How could results in Google Maps be SO different from the ones in Oruxmaps?
Wondering if that could be a matter of the arguments you pass to the getFromLocationName(). Are you using the bounding boxes?
Thanks!

Hi, febs,
no, not using a bounding box.
That may be the difference.
The problem is that it is used from the list of wpts, where there is not a relative position.

Re: How does geocoding works?
Odd, i would have thought the opposite: not using a bounding box should get MORE results, or have I understood the documentation the wrong way? Actually the sentence "The results are a best guess and are not guaranteed to be meaningful or correct" is in both way of calling the function and doesn't make much sense, neither.
I didn't really understood what you meant with "is used from the list of wpts, where there is not a relative position", sorry.
Maybe you should test using as bounding box the selected area on the screen?
By the way, I could set up a android SDK and experiment with that.
