NATMAP Australia Empty NATMAP Australia

Post  KP_OZ Wed Apr 20, 2011 12:00 am

Thank you for a brilliant program. Having done a small amount of programming, I can appreciate the incredible effort you have put in.

For Australia, the Govt has created NATMAP 250K- being a single map (Raster mosiac).
It covers the whole country, and runs on OziExplorer. The .ecw file is 702 meg.

I cannot get the map converted to run on Orux.
In the standard form - of .Map file and .ECW - Oruxdesktop V2.0.8 says "An Error occurred while reading the image".
This error message occurs immediately it starts to try.

I then converted the .ECW to PNG format (18.7 Gig) using Oziexplorer, and also JPG format using ER Viewer V7.
In both cases, Oruxdesktop appears to do the conversion, and it creates two files - and otrk2.xml and a .db file (271,937 K).
Orux does recognise the files and runs them, but the screen is blank. (Using my HTC Desire phone running Android V2.2)
As I move my finger around the screen, Orux even displays the changing co-ordinates - but the screen is blank.
I have smaller maps covering some desert regions of Australia, that Oruxdesktop converted correctly. Using Orux, when I move past the boundary of the desert map Orux loads the Natmap250K, but again the screen is blank.

Is there any other method I can try to get this NATMAP converted? Perhaps the 271937k is a size limit, or the image Height/width of 128750,109528 is too large?

Again - appreciate your effort and assistance................kind regards.....................Keith

Hi;

This is a monster map!

Try with last version of OruxMapsDesktop (2.0.9beta) but I am afraid that will no be possible to convert. We can not use with our android devices files > 4gb. If the png image uses 18gb, sure OruxMapsDesktop will use the same amount of space.

NATMAP Australia Empty Other Australian Maps

Post  KP_OZ Fri Apr 22, 2011 1:34 am

Thanks for your reply. Appreciated.
I would like Orux to have a map (or maps) of Australia, when OFFLINE - it is a big country, and mobile coverage is not available in our most scenic places - such as the outback, the deserts, Central Australia, the Gemfields, the Gold Fields, the Pilbera, the barramundi fishing areas etc.
I notice that Orux can read OpenstreetMap, when ONLINE .
I also notice from OSMAustralia.org website, they provide openstreetmaps for Australia in 2 formats.
1 - the whole of australia in OSM format - size 2.44 g
2. Each individual state - there are 8 files in SMD format. The largest is aprox 12 meg.

Is there a way to download the files that Orux use from Openstreetmap online, so they are available offline?
Is there a way to convert either the OSM format or the SMD format to be usable by Orux?

Thanks again for your efforts and for your replies....................Keith

Hi, Keith;

All what you can see online in Oruxmaps, can be downloaded for offline use:

--using MOBAC
--using built-in map creator: open the map, menu--Map Creator.
