Backlight Management Empty Backlight Management

Post  nanu Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:04 pm

hi orux,

is it possibile to make in oruxmaps a setup for dimmer function ?
a time controlled backlight instead of screen timeout to save battery?
e.g after 1 min. the backlight dimms to 5% or zero and saves a lot of battery !
later... a short tip on the screen switches backlight on to the preset value.
you must not press a little nagy and unpractical button.( impossible during a bikers downhill)
this function is standard in winCE mob. i miss this function in android.
please please.... Rolling Eyes

This can be done today, withouth changes in Oruxmaps - with the fabulous Tasker Android app.

thanks !

i take a look of the homepage from Tasker
and i found:
Can I use Tasker to turn the screen on and off ?
Turning on, use the Display / Turn On action.
Turning off, no, sorry, that's not allowed by the Android designers.
The best you can do is set the screen timeout to the minimum (7 seconds) and when it goes off, replace the normal timeout using a Display Off event.

please can you explain how to setup for event ?
e.g dimm after 1 min. to 5 % with trigger tap on screen for the preset brightness(e.g 80 %).

Hi,
I tried to create a task for this, but it turns out to be more difficult than I thought (or rather, my Tasker skills are more limited than I thought Smile ). I'll give it another try when I have time, and i'll report back here in a week or less.

If there are Tasker users who have passed my own skill level, they are most welcome to take over this... task.

hi,
thanks for your efforts Very Happy

I tried to install the app but it ended with a crash.
on my archos 5IT does not run this program.
then i tried an other device --- install is cancelled.
I guess.. any other user have this problem also with their devices.

So surely it would be a better solution to integrate this function into oruxmaps. cheers

great idea, its annoying to search the hardware-button during a long run....
But i have the fear, that this will not be very easy to implement...

Hi, nanu;

added to my TODO list.

Hi orux,
there is a huge difference in battery/device runtime if the light dims down.
If I use default settings, my Defy runs with external bluetooth GPS 4-5 hours. If I check the battery consumption, the light needs 70%!
If I use as a hack the night mode, it runs >10 hours.
Is there a chance to donate (together with MB?) to bring this feature to the top of your priority?

Surprised

You are my hero!
This works in fact, the screen goes down to about 10%.
If I had the source of this tool, I would reduce it to 0% in a second step.
Since I'm a developer an familiar with Java, maybe I will spend a rainy weekend to implement this, if orux will not implement is soon.
(I need this for a mountain bike week across the alps in summer....)

Thanks!

It would be great to turn off light completely. I don't know is there some limitation so It can be just dimmed.

If there will be upgrade or something like that I appeal that app stay available from Android 2.1 to newer.

The will has rolled... Very Happy

Hi;

added an option in configuration to select two wake locks:
--brightness wake lock (default)
--dim wake lock.

But dim wake lock is managed by android; the brightness is set to 10%, more or less. May be this value can be configured in android to a different value.

Backlight Management Empty I'm getting confised

Post  valley Sun May 29, 2011 8:23 pm

What exactly should I do if I want oruxmaps to dim down after a minute and brighten up when I tap the screen?
Also "type of wake lock" under setting>application is kind of cryptic to the average user.

Thanks,

Valley

Hi;

select 'screen always ON' and 'DIM WAKE LOCK' in type of wake lock. The screen will be dimmed down after xx minutes, based on your android settings for screen dimmed.

I will try another words, but it is how android calls this function.

Backlight Management Empty doesn't work for me

Post  valley Mon May 30, 2011 8:37 pm

Working with HTC sense on a 2.2 desire, the screen still dims after the set number of minutes and 5 seconds later shuts off to be awakened only by the standard wake-up combination of a hard switch and swipe on screen.

Hi;
This feature only works in track logging mode . I think it's a risk to lock the screen otherwise. But I can change this...
