GPS Mode options Empty GPS Mode options

Hi,

This button offers 3 modes: Default, Fast and Powersave.

Please could you briefly explain what the 3 modes do? For example, does the eco mode take a coordinate less frequently from the satellites, write it to the log file less often, etc?

I couldn't see an explanation in the documentation so apologies if it's already explained there.

Thanks,

Alastair

You are right; I have to explain it better:

fast mode, equals to:
minimal distance for gps fix request: 5mts.
minimal time for gps fix: 0 seconds
The gps will stay on all the time, but a position log will be done if distance from last saved position > 5 mts.

eco:
minimal distance for gps fix request: 80mts.
minimal time for gps fix: 30 seconds
Android can stop the gps, 30 seconds more or less. A new location will be saved if distance from last saved position > 80 mts.

default:
uses the values configured in settings--application--gps

That's interesting!
Does "minimal distance for gps fix request" mean, that you use the speed of the last gps fix to calculate the the time interval when you poll android for the next gps fix?
For Example: Speed of last gps fix was 1.5 m/s. With a minimal distance for gps fix request of let's say 5 meters, you will poll android in about 5/1.5 = 3.3s for the next gps fix.

I have the same questions:
http://www.oruxmaps.com/manual_en.html
GPS Mode: and power save (minimal time set to 30 sec., minimal distance to 80 mts.)
If last measured speed higher as 80/30=2,7m/s oruxmaps change the GPS sample rate to < 30sec and and consumes more power?

Thanks

Android operating system manages the gps.

It is supposed that android tries to meet both parameters.

Regardless of speed, the GPS should be keep off about 30 seconds. If the speed is very low, Android may turn off the GPS more than 30 seconds, to also meet the other parameter.

But this algorithm is not true 100%!
