OruxMaps is really a great tool for hiking. I'd like to call OruxMaps from an other activity (=OpenGPX) via an intent. As an example AndNav2 can be called easily through an . Is an API already built in at OruxMaps or ist there a way to call OruxMaps with given coordinates?

Hi, with last beta (2.7.6beta) you can:

1.-open online map at current position (enables GPS):
action---->"com.oruxmaps.VIEW_MAP_ONLINE"

2.-open online map a lat/lon (does not enable GPS):
action----->"com.oruxmaps.VIEW_MAP_ONLINE"
extra data "latitude" --->[-90.0, 90.0]
extra data "longitude" ---->[-180.0, 180.0]

Next version will add VIEW action for .gpx and .kml

Interfacing with OruxMaps Empty Interfaces

Post  asjogren Mon Dec 06, 2010 8:47 pm

Si Usted quire, yo puedo intentar traducir al Español. Pero ahora, mi Español no es bueno. Yo leo mejor que yo escribo.

OruxMaps could be the base for an explosion of visitor's guides or events. What is needed is the EXTERNAL ability to:
1) Download the base maps (source, Latitude, Logitude, width, height, and zoom levels) so as to not distribute copyrighted materials
2) Add local knowledge (waypoints) which could be free wifi spots, best restaurants, scenic viewpoints, places to rent equipment, recommended places to fish, and many, many more
3) Set the intial position

I think the previous 3 requests could be done by exposing a few existing features of OruxMaps. This could be done one time when the "visitor's guide" application is installed and run.

In addition, I see the need to add a couple new features to OruxMaps to enable the usefulness of a "visitor guide" or event :
1) Optionally add one or more keyword tags to waypoints. For example, an automatically added piece of local knowledge for a Hotel could have the following tags:
- free WiFi
- recommended restaurant
- seafood restaurant
- ATM machine
- good value hotel
Clearly, these tags are dependent on many things. One could have many "Madrid Visitor Guides". Different languages. A museum and arts tour of Madrid. A historical tour of Madrid. A backpacker's guide to Madrid. A bus and train guide to Madrid. They cannot really be pre-defined keyword tags by OruxMaps.

2) Add the ability to display and hide waypoints by keyword tag. For example, waypoint, display, "WiFi". Or, seafood restaurants. Or Museums.

3) A nice feature would be to link a waypoint to one or more photographs. Perhaps this could be a call to another program or script with the waypoint identifier.

I think that OruxMaps is EXCELLENT. But, it could be the base for so much more. Adding value to existing base maps opens huge opportunities.

Interfacing with OruxMaps Empty Ignore item 3

Please ignore item number 3:
"3) A nice feature would be to link a waypoint to one or more photographs. Perhaps this could be a call to another program or script with the waypoint identifier."

I am embarrassed to say that I missed the entended attributes feature of waypoints.

Actually, it is possible to attach photograph to waypoint but only if it is previously saved. It would be great to have an option to turn camera on and take a show while setting waypoint.

As I record bicycle trails, my need is to be able to stop the bike, make a shoot and save waypoint with as less hassle as possible. Close to ideal would be to clck Add waypoint, click Take shoot, rise camera, make photo, Save, sit on bike, and go on riding. It is expected that such photo should be geotaged.

Interfacing with OruxMaps Empty GPX XML ELements Used by OruxMaps?

Post  asjogren Wed Dec 08, 2010 6:18 pm

Which data elements does OruxMaps importfrom a GPX file, besides the obvious of Lat, Long, Name, and Description?

As for "Type" in wptTpe and rteType, are there only specific keywords supported? Or, can any string I add be seen in OruxMaps?

How about linkType? Can I use that for pictures, audio, and text? Can these be URI's for files on the SD Card?

In 3.2.7, LONG-CLICK on the waypoint icon. The camera is turned on. Take a photo. Use extensions and gallery to attach photo to waypoint.

Hi;

You can open a .gpx or .kml with an Intent.

//opening tk.gpx (inside sdcard) file with OruxMaps (or other app that understand .gpx extension)
File f = new File (Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(), "tk.gpx");
startActivity(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW).setData(Uri.fromFile(f)));

thank you.
But I get an error. Even if I try to open a file with gpx extension in a file manager like Astro.
The Error message is: 'Application Not Found'. I cleared all default applications with the App 'ClearDefault'. Maybe it's an issue with my phone and Custom Rom (Cyanogenmod 6.1). At another phone I can open a gpx-File from within a Filemanager with OruxMaps...

Yes, it's the last beta. To open a gpx-file with oruxmaps from within astro filemanager I have to create a new extension gpx with the mime-type application/x-navimap. Then it works. From within OIFilemanager it's still not possible. Maybe it's possible to create the gpx extension system wide, not only in astro file manager...

You are right; with astro you need to add the file extension.

But with OI File Manager, or Adao File Manager (I use both) you do not have to configure anything.

Interfacing with OruxMaps Empty Select location using OruxMaps?

Post  HRJ Tue May 24, 2011 7:23 am

Is there a way to launch the Orux Maps Activity to select a location?

The use-case is:
My app ( ) requires to know the location of the device. I already support GPS and manual specification. It would be cool to let the user select the location from a map.

One option is to integrate the Google Maps library into my app. But it will require Internet permission in my app, which I rather not provide. The Google Maps API doesn't support selecting a location.

Hence, I would prefer if OruxMaps could support such an intent.

cheers,
HRJ
