Should I switch to Bluetooth GPS

Post  twoten on Sun Nov 04, 2012 11:29 am

I have had problems for some time with Oruxmaps using the internal GPS on my HTC Desire S.
I am wondering if using an external Bluetooth GPS would improve matters?

Are other users getting better recorded tracks with Bluetooth receivers?

If I descide to get a Bluetooth receiver does Oruxmaps have to be compatible or as long as the Android operating system sees it the apps should?

Also is there any benefit getting a Bluetooth GPS that is WAAS / EGNO capable?

I used a BT GPS a lot when in a car which couldn't get a fix through the roof well. The battery lasted longer as well. More recent model Androids I have found less need for BT as the GPS/GLONASS works well enough.

I use an old Holux Slim 236 BT receiver mainly because I get much better battery life from the phone with it. It also seems to hold on to the signal better than the phone (Galaxy S2) so tracks are better especially in densely wooded areas.
